I am a documentary director, producer, professor, and reluctant cinematographer whose films explore the invisible architecture of democratic life. Through cinematic portraits, these stories reveal how institutions, narratives, and power converge to shape our public sphere. Those bureaucracies you think are boring? You’re in for a fun surprise.

I have a background in journalism and investigative reporting, and my work has been featured on HBO, Netflix, FX, HULU, VICE, CBS, CNN, and in the New York Times. My projects are generously supported by the Sundance Documentary Fund, Chicken & Egg, the Ford Foundation, and others (thank you!).

I am currently directing a film about C-SPAN. I’m also producing “The Empire of Ebony,” about the cultural impact of Ebony and Jet magazines. In 2024, I produced The Debutantes - a film about a revival of a Black debutante ball in post-industrial Ohio, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

My work has been honored with two Emmys, a Peabody, and a Gracie. In 2023, I was selected to be part of the DOC NYC 40 Under 40 and I was accepted to the 2022 PANO Cinematographers Lab.

When I’m not making things, I am an assistant professor at Rutgers University. My side hustle is helping other women succeed.
